So at the office I noticed 3 Netgear wireless access points stopped responding, all within the same week. Most of the lights were on, but the antenna light was out. Further troubleshooting revealed the antenna’s had burned out, probably caused by a recent power fluctation. Unfortunately an animal caused a power outage and these units were not plugged into any surge protection. Another reason I stress the importance of surge protection on all equipment, regardless of your geographical location. So there goes a few hundred dollars. Well, they were kind of old so no big deal. But lesson reminded, we will install them with surge protection this time around. The IT Guys – http://www.theitguysinc.com

WIFI stop working?
May 4, 2012It was the strangeous thing, I came home and was told none of our laptops, iPad’s, iPhone’s, etc. would connect to the WIFI. The power had gone out the night before after a garbage truck took a line down. However, it had been repaired. So I went about troubleshooting. You may wonder what to do when you wireless stops responding, so here are the steps:
1. Check your wireless router to ensure it’s plugged into power, and make sure all the Cat5 network cables are connected. Then check the lights to see if you notice power and/or any activity.
2. If everything looks ok, then unplug the power to your wireless router for about one minute. Then plug it back in. Give it about a minute to boot up, and then try accessing the internet with one of your computer devices.
Believe it or not, the above fixes 99% of the wireless problems out there. If this doesn’t fix your wireless, then either your wireless router has gone bad, lost it’s configuraiton, or a physically connection is disconnected somewhere.
Hope this helps. Have a great weekend!
